We put both of my bags in a luggage locker for the next two nights since we had to head back to Munich to get to our next destination. So it was really nice not having to have extra luggage.
We made it safely to Salzburg and our hotel was really close to the train station which was awesome. Plus they had awesome beds with real pillows! Oh and wifi! While we waited for our room to get ready we headed to the mall across the street because there was a bakery on the inside. This is when the revolving door incident occurred. Team lead was of course at the front of the pack when we entered a giant revolving door. Unfortunately for Mom, a lady jumped in and messed up the door which caused the door to hit team lead. She was so confused she couldn't get out when it came time to exit but luckily Dad grabbed her! At the time it was not funny but looking back now it is hilarious (sorry Mom!)
After we ate our delicious Austrian pastries we went back to the hotel to officially check in and then we hit the streets of Salzburg! We walked to the Mirabell Garden's, which is where a lot of the Sound of Music scenes were taken. We took a lot of photos and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Mom read us the history of the Garden's from her trusty Rick Steve's book as we looked around. I think the beautiful views from the gardens were some of my favorite things about Salzburg. In the garden's we had amazing views of the fortress up on the top of the mountain.
We wandered through the gardens and went to a small square where the Mozart Museum is in addition to a small church.
After visiting the church, we walked to the pedestrian bridge that crosses over the river. It had locks on the side to represent a couples love for each other. It was so cute! Plus there were great views of the fortress on the bridge.
It was a beautiful day out and we had some refreshing drinks at some tables along the river for a nice little break.
We then hurried over to a local craft store that Mom really wanted to see. It was in the Residenz platz so Dad and I took photos while she shopped. There is a huge fountain which is also featured in the Sound of Music. In the same area was the area which is known as Getreidgasse, which is a pedestrian area full of shops and restaurants. All of the businesses have gorgeous wrought iron signs that fill the small streets. It was amazing and gave the area an old fashion feel. I loved it!
After walking around and window shopping we headed back to the river for a boat tour. I then became an official tourist because I was taking pictures of everything on the tour since it was so pretty. However, at one point in the trip I turned around and noticed that I was the only one with a camera out. Everyone else on the tour had been drinking champagne! I continued to take photos anyways. There were amazing views of the fortress and the city of Salzburg. The boat driver also took us down the river out of the city so we could have an awesome view of the mountains. At the end of the tour they informed us that we would be doing a waltz. I quickly found out what that meant as the driver starting spinning the boat in circles. The driver was doing a waltz with the boat! It was so awesome and I must say they were very good at the waltz.
After our tour we set out for finding a good restaurant. We ended up finding a little Italian place and headed inside. We sat down at a table and we noticed we were getting wet since it was raining out and we became very confused until we looked up and noticed that the inside of the restaurant was a courtyard. The waiter then put up an umbrella over our table so we could eat our dinner without getting wet. It was a very interesting experience and we had a wonderful meal!
